Lloyd Dean “Deanie” Small, 85, of Parker City, IN passed away peacefully at his residence, with family by his side, Friday, January 19, 2018. He was born January 12, 1933 in Windsor, Indiana the son of Delbert and Violet (Richardson) Small. He was a 1951 graduate of Parker High School. He loved his heritage as a Parker Panther. He honorably served in the US Army during Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

Dean, known as “Curly” to his fellow railroad workers, retired in 1993 from Norfolk Southern Railroad, serving as a contractor for bridges. He was a member of the Parker City United Methodist Church; a 50 year member of the Farmland American Legion; a 20 year precinct committeeman for Parker City; former member of Parker Lions Club; served on the Randolph County Alcohol Beverage Board and the Randolph County Election Board. He truly loved and cared for the community of Parker City. He enjoyed his leisure time as an avid golfer.

He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, Shirley (Brees) Wright Small; two step sons, Drew Wright (wife, Carolyn) of Eaton, IN and Bill Fate (wife, Cindy) of Lafayette, IN; six step daughters, Jami Wright (husband, Ted) Columbia City, IN, Wendi Kaufman of Parker City, IN, Mary Jean Walker (husband, Kevin) of Warsaw, IN, Kelli Yunker (husband, Chuck) of Gramby, CO, Sunni Rey Harriman of Hartford City, IN and Amanda Murrell of Hartford City, IN; thirteen grandchildren, Joshua Kaufman, Nathanial Thorn (wife, Samantha), Jason Kaufman, Chelsea Wright, Eric Sorrell, Kiera Yunker, Brandi Dean Barr, Kendra Yunker, Acoya Harriman, Anthony Harriman, and three other grandchildren; one great grandchild, Tatum Thorn; and two special friends, Bruce Bright and Milton Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great grandson, Brian Thorn.

A service to celebrate Dean’s life will be 11 am Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Parker City United Methodist Church of Parker City, IN. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery of Windsor, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, January 22nd at Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN. I am sorry to hear about Dean. I enjoyed playing golf with him. I am sure his family and the community will miss him.

Dear Shirley: We just learned of Deanie's passing. We are so sorry for your loss. Al always thought so much of him and they always had a good time thinking about their lives in the Parker area as young men.
