Wanda Jo-Ann Van Matre, 76, of Farmland, IN passed away Sunday afternoon, April 8, 2018 at her residence. She was born September 19, 1941 in Muncie, IN the daughter of I.W. and Uva (Bennett) Naylor. She was a 1959 graduate of Muncie Central High School of Muncie, IN.
Wanda was a strong lady who fought and won her battle with cancer for several years. She was an inspiration to her family who believed she too would win her most recent battle, but as determined as she was, God could see how tired Wanda was becoming, surrounded by her family, she passed peacefully from her family’s loving arms to God’s. Her family will continue to try and show the strength and courage that she carried with her always.
Wanda loved spending time with her family and fishing. She was a member of Harris Chapel Church of the Nazarene of Selma, IN.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, a husband of 58 years, 10 months, Robert Van Matre; three children, Robert (Christie) Van Matre, Kimberly (Jay) Wright and Jo-Ann (James) Silvers; six grandchildren, Laura Van Matre, Stephen (Leah) Delk, Christina, Ciarra and Cynthia Silvers, and Alexis Ruble; a brother-in-law, Charles “Buster” (Sara) Van Matre; a sister, Kay (Virgil) Wright; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends; and a special place in our hearts for Eddie and Sidney Shepp. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Myrtle Dyer, her parents, I.W. and Uva Naylor; two brothers, Eldon and Gene Naylor; a sister, Patty Bainter; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Mary Van Matre; and a brother-in-law, Tommy Van Matre.
A service to celebrate Wanda’s life will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018 at Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN with Pastor Jim Ballenger officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery of Parker City, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15th at the funeral home.
