Vernon Patty

June 9, 1932 ~ April 28, 2018 (age 85)

Carlos Vernon Patty of Farmland, Indiana, passed away Saturday evening, April 28, 2018.   He was 85 years old.

Vernon was born on June 9, 1932 to Gierluf (Dude) and Clara Patty.  Following his mother’s death three weeks after his birth, his mother’s sister and uncle, Buck and Marjorie Medler, raised him from three weeks old. 

Vernon graduated from Stoney Creek High School in 1950.  Following graduation, he was drafted into the army in 1954 and served until 1956.  While in the Army, Vernon completed his education in surveying, receiving his certification from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.    Vernon applied this training while serving as the Randolph County Surveyor for 26 years.  After retirement in 1998, he spent his time engineering projects and woodworking, making special gifts for his family.

On June 20, 1959, Vernon married Anna Leah Stanley.   Together, they were lifelong farmers until 2000.  Vernon greatly enjoyed his family, and he always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

During his life, Vernon attended Popular Run Church, Philadelphia Christian Church, and Tropic Star Christian Church in Texas.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Leah, of Farmland; his daughter, Lisa Chalfant (Greg); his daughter-in-law, Julie Patty; two grandsons, Matthew Patty, and Aaron Patty (Lauren); two granddaughters, Stephanie Stiening (David), and Deidre Chalfant (fiancee, Zacc Conner); five great-grandchildren, Benjamin Dennis Patty, Donovan Robert Stiening, Declan Allan Stiening, Madeline Grace Stiening, and Averie Mae Conner; his brother, Howard Patty (Mary); a sister-in law, Marsena Oxley (Lothair); a niece, nephews, and cousins; and many friends including special friends in Texas.

Vernon was preceded in death by his beloved son, Dennis Patty, in 2013; his parents, in-laws, Forest and Bertha Stanley, a sister, Maxine, and a half-brother.

The family wishes to extend appreciation to the Randolph County first responders for their tireless efforts and dedication to serving others.

Funeral services for Vernon will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Wilson-Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel in Parker City, Indiana. Entombment will be at Elm Ridge Mausoleum. 

Friends and family may call on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour before the services, at the funeral home.  A family friend, Rev. Ned Wysong, will be officiating.
