David Lee Shelton, 62, of Greenwood, IN passed away Thursday afternoon, May 10, 2018. He was born May 27, 1955 in Crailsheim, Germany the son of Gordon Dale and Dorothy J. (Coulter) Shelton. He was a 1973 graduate of Cloverdale High School in Cloverdale, IN. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
David recently retired after more than 20 years with the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. He loved and was very proud of his continued service to his fellow service men and women. He will be remembered for his generosity and kindness to everyone he met.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Dalinda Kay (Shelton) Stowe and Dawnetta Sue (Shelton) Taylor and his seven grandchildren: (from oldest to youngest) Trisha Goforth, Davey Taylor, Danicea Taylor, Noah Stowe, Dawson Taylor, Kaydence Stowe and Josiah Stowe; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his step-father that raised him, Charles Arthur Monroe.
He battled infection due to his open-heart surgery. He fought hard to recover to be with his family and friends. Marines never give up! They go down fighting. He will be dearly missed and held in our hearts forever. He’s now resting in our Lord’s loving arms.
A service to celebrate David’s life will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018 at Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery of Muncie, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
