Mary Louise Smithson, 83, of Ridgeville, IN passed away Monday evening, January 22, 2018 at her residence, with family by her side. She was born February 20, 1934 in Richmond, IN the daughter of George and Olive (Collins) Rittenhouse. She was a 1952 graduate of Winchester High School.

Mary Louise and her husband, Byron, raised All-American Registered Holsteins and Milking Shorthorns for over 60 years and were known through-out the state. She was a wonderful homemaker who served countless delicious farm meals and her famous sweet tea. She was a beautiful woman and a kind soul who loved and was loved by all. Mary Louise was very proud of her large family.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 64 years, Byron Smithson; five children, a daughter, Kathi Lillie of Muncie, IN, and her daughter, Staci Luck, a son, Mark Smithson (wife, Beth) of Farmland, IN and their children, Ryan (wife, Ashley), Kyle and Emily Smithson, Carly Beasely (husband, Clint) and Jill Thomas (husband, Josh), a daughter, Pam Whitehead (fiance’, Steve Martin) and her children, Luke, Levi (wife, Stephanie), Lyle (wife, Brianna), and Landon Whitehead (wife, Jami), a son, Shane Smithson (Nikola Clevenger) and his children, Drummond (wife, Jazmynn), Draughn (wife, Lindsey), Shania and Gavin Smithson, and Todd Smithson (wife, Heather) and their children, Isaac, Olivia and Gage Smithson; 15 great grandchildren; a brother, George Rittenhouse (wife, Nina) of Bluffton, IN, and two sisters, Jennalee Thurston of Tucson, AZ and Diana Sayers of Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Delbert Lee Rittenhouse; and a sister, JoAnn Howell.

A service to celebrate Mary Louise’s life will be 11 am Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN. with Pastor Mark Garringer officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery of Farmland, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 26th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Randolph County 4-H Club, 1885 South US 27 Winchester, IN 47394 and Southern Care Hospice, 3415 W. Fox Ridge Ln. Muncie, IN 47304.
