Mary Alice "Dot" (Smith) Nelson, age 94, passed away at LifePath Hospice in Sun City Center, Florida on June 15, 2012. She was born in Lee County, Kentucky on November 26, 1917 to Lusion and Pearl (Vanderpool) Smith; she is survived by a younger sister, Mae Hall of Morehead, Kentucky. She was the widow of the late Norval Nelson. She was previously married to Emerald Bowlin (deceased) and had six children with him: Leroy (deceased); Kenneth (deceased); Zane; Joyce Leigh (Ron); Judy Lutes (Tom); and Roger. She had 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and was loved by all including her sons-in-law Tom Lutes and Ron Leigh, as well as Linda Bowlin, Adelbert Williams, Faye Smith, and her late daughter-in law Carolyn Bowlin; and many other family members and friends.
She lived for many years in Lynn, IN and resided the last 9 years in Florida. She worked her entire life making a home for her loved ones and extended family. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, reading, and sewing. She always had room at the dinner table for anyone who was hungry.
A service to celebrate Mary Alice's life will be at Thomas Memorial Chapel, 108 E. Sherman Street, Lynn, IN at 1:00 pm Friday, June 22, 2012. Family and friends may gather to share and remember Thursday, June 21st from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm. She will be buried at the Economy Cemetery in Economy, IN following the services on Friday. GRANDMA WE WILL MISS YOU SO MUCH. YOU NEVER LET ANYONE OR ANYTHING STAND IN YOUR WAY TO SEE STEVE AND I, AND FOR THAT YOU WERE AN AMAZING WOMAN,WIFE MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER.FROM MY MEMORIES I HAVE AS WELL AS THE ONES MOM TOLD ME YOU WERE ONE HELL OF A WOMAN AND MOM SAID YOU ALWAYS HAD HER BACK WHEN HER AND DAD WOULD ARGUE..LOL..I CAN ONLY HOPE I CAN BE LIKE YOU. WE WILL MISS YOU GRANDMA. I KNOW YOU WILL BE IN HEAVEN COOKING FOR EVERYONE. I WILL SEE YOU SOON AND TAKE CARE OF THE REST OF THOSE UP THERE.
